Doctor Who Meets Top Gear

July 12, 2008 - No Responses

Those clever people at the BBC have done something rather marvelous. They’ve combined footage from Doctor Who, with David Tennant’s lap around the Top Gear track. David was the Star In A Reasonably Priced Car and set a lap time of 1 minute and 48.8 seconds. He failed to beat his Doctor Who co-star Billie Piper who set a time of 1 minute 48.3 seconds. Here’s the clever clip:

Doctor Who: Journey’s End Review

Well that was good. Yes good is the right word.

I say good, because it wasn’t fantastic. Oh everything you are about to read is my opinion and just my opinion, feel free to disagree with my opinions. Anyway, it all seemed a bit over the top, a bit too far fetched. Most of the ’spoilers’ that are all over the internet came true. I did love the bit with Donna running round knowing exactly what to do, but the hows and whys of how she knew what to do was far fetched.

Ok so everyone knew it had something to do with his bubbly hand, which has been lingering around for three series now. and that was impressive, but then when he’d connected with it and then was just the same, no pain, no nothing; I recall the words I said out loud were “Well that was rubbish”. Because it was, I was disappointed with that beginning. And then later when Donna connected with the hand was silly. It was kind of good, but yes slightly predictable.

Moving on, what did I like about this episode? Rose. I loved Rose having her own little Doctor who she can grow old with. They fell in love then were separated and now she and her Doctor can live all of there lives together. But it was nice to have Rose back, the new original companion, everyone’s favourtie.

I feel sorry for Eve Myles and Garath David-Lloyd, I mean been stuck in bloody Cardiff whilst everyone else is running around having fun. I would be well annoyed if I was stuck in Torchwood and everyone else was gallivanting around, saving the world.

Good choices of music as well, again. Last episode similar music was used and I loved it. It had a great upbeat tempo and worked very well. It seemed slight Bollywood but that worked well with everyone running around.

Whilst writing this I’m watching Doctor Who Confidential on BBC Three. And my opinion of this episode keeps changing, I’m in two minds on whether I like it or not. I think the whole two Doctors, Donna been smart and a frankly disappointing regeneration is holding back my opinions. If we ignore all of those things, then, well, it is a good episode. A very good one. Shot well, written well and acted superbly. I loved the storyline of Rose, I really did. It was a good finishing up to the character.

Clearly this episode was a finale for Russell T Davies as well. As he is leaving the series after the specials next year, this was his send off. Wrapping up all of the characters that he has created and putting them all in one place finishing there stories. May I also say that it is pretty obvious that Martha and Mickey will be members of the Torchwood team in the next series. That should be interesting though.

Actually there’s another thing that I loved. Davros. What an absolutely fantastic performance by Julian Bleach, I loved it. He played the part in such a chilling and maddening way, it was perfect. He portrayed the chracter of a mad evil mastermind very well.

And this episode also said goodbye to Catherine Tate, who I think has DEFINATELY proved all of her critics wrong  by playing an outstanding performance all series as Donna Noble. She’s showed that she can do serious acting as well as the comedy she does. She has played an amazing performance.

So yeah, it was good thinking about it, so I would ignore the first half of my review! Sorry! But opinions change. Just forget the two Doctors and this episode was FANTASTIC!

What did you think of this episode, feel free to leave your comments below.

UPDATE: READ MY REVIEW OF JOURNEY’S END BY CLICKING HERE NOW

———————————————-

Excitedly, the BBC have updated their Doctor Who website in preperation for this Saturday’s epic 65-minute finale. They’ve also released a preview to go with it, I’m not giong to put that here though. This is because Blue Peter had a longer preview which included the same clip. Here is it:

So based on that clip Mickey Smith and Jackie Tyler both return in the finale. Also it shows that Sarah Jane survives her encounter with the Daleks. Now, here’s the official TV trailer:

Obviously this doesn’t show what happens to the Doctor. But it’s chilling and quite exciting to see the TARDIS on fire again.

Tune in at 6:40 on Saturday to see it.

Doctor Who: The Stolen Earth Review

June 28, 2008 - One Response

OH MY GOD. Now that’s what I call awesome.

Now that was awesome. I have to say well done, because the whole episode was pulled off absolutely fantastically. I did have my doubts over whether having the majority of companions there could have been a complete disaster with too much going on, but it was pulled of really well. You got to see a range of emotions, so all the family had there attachments and person they could relate to the most. I have to say bringing Harriet Jones back was genius, I loved the way everyone (even the Dalek’s!) said ‘Yes, I know who you are’ to her, this is such a phrase that is common with her. I have to admit I was close to tears when she first said she was going to give her life for Earth. It’s such a noble thing to do, and she played it so so well. That whole section of everyone coming together to call the Doctor was superb as well, everything was right, the music, the shots, the spoken words. It was fantastic.

Now lets talk about Davros. My he looked ugly, I did wince a bit when he came on. He was A LOT uglier then I thought he was going to be. And I didn’t realise that his eyes were covered up, thinking about it though makes sense; because why else would he have the blue eye in his head, just like his Dalek creations. He is an iconic figure, and is always forgotten I think, it’s good that it’s coming to a new audience.

I loved Rose’s reaction to Martha, ‘Who’s she?’. That was brilliant. I also liked the way Rose couldn’t quite get involved, she so wanted to be involved, but couldn’t quite get there. And thank god that her random lisp had gone, I didn’t quite understand what was going on there. I think that Martha was a bit pointless in this episode though, her only purpose seemed to be to provide the Doctor’s number. I love the way all the TV shows crossed over, and they were all explained to viewers who hadn’t seen them before. I have never seen The Sarah Jane Adventures before, and I do feel that Luke Smith (Sarah Jane’s son) wasn’t explained enough. If you didn’t know, he is her son but he is adopted, he’s an alien boy who doesn’t grasp simple concept of human nature.

Anyway, a very very good episode and one that I thoroughly enjoyed. I cannot wait until next week, as suspected every character has there cliffhanger. Especially the Doctor, but let me remind you of his hand bubbling away in the jar. That’s all I’m going to say.
